About the college:

Deshbandhu College was established in the year 1952 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation. The college gets its name from late Sh. Deshbandhu Gupta-a veteran freedom fighter. The college made a humble beginning with just 72 students, it was later taken over by University of Delhi. Guided by the mantra "Karmanyevadhikaraste", the college is a meting point of dedicated teachers and nurturing environment where education is a way towards empowerment. It is one of the oldest and the largest co-educational institute in South Delhi offering courses in the disciplines of Arts, Commerce and Science courses to over 20000 students.

Facilities:

The campus of Deshbandhu College invites a walk in its plush lawns and gardens. They are every students favourite "adda". A quick look at the campus will also acquaint you with capacious architecture which includes- Administrative block, Arts blocks, a newly renovated old block, Science block and a library with a huge collection of books, periodicals and journals that a student can access easily

Library:

The college library is a learner's refuge. It has a massive collection of over 85,000 books on various fields of knowledge; a spacious and comfortable reading room where you can consult and learn through journals, magazines and dailies. The college favors bi-linguality. The books are available in English as well as Hindi to help students gain knowledge without a language barrier as a limit. The book bank section offers text books to those coming from difficult economic backgrounds and needing assistance for their education. The college also prides itself in encouraging a research oriented atmosphere. There is a separate floor for teachers and research scholars to stay immerse in their researches for as long as they wish, with an easy accessibility to books, online journals and inter- net

Other facilities:

Deshbandhu College also offers fully equipped laboratories, a modern state of the art gymnasium, and a canteen with wide variety of taste to choose from. The student's common room is another place where you can relax and unwind with a book or your bunch of friends in the comfort of a space inside your own college. Deshbandhu students believe it is a great place to get to know other students who share common interests and ideas.

The college promotes modern techniques of education where knowledge is an interactive process to learn new skills and create space for individual development. The onus is on using new methods of teaching to sharpen the young minds. For this, the college organizes seminars, lectures, workshops, field work and other co-curricular activities

Embedded in the philosophy of the college is the spirit of social responsibility of the youth. The college aims at making its student equipped though knowledge and free spirit to work towards self and the society. It offers number of scholarships and financial aid to meritorious and students in need. Great emphasis is also given to N.CC and N.S.S work. Eligibility Criteria:

B.A. (Hons) courses the candidates are chozen on the basis of Cut- off lists which come in the last week of June. Science students can also apply for the Hons. Courses of interest in commerce as well as arts. For B.Sc. courses and economics, maths in 10+2 is preffered.Quota seats in the college are- SC/ST 22.5%; OBC 9% this year; sports/ECA/others: As per Delhi University rules

Admission:

The admission to Bachelor's programme in Deshbandhu College depends upon the percentage of marks obtained in 10+2 or its equivalent. The required cut-off marks that are declared in the last week of June. In case you don't make it through the first list, there is always a chance that the second cut-off list (released three days after the first cut-off list) would help you decide what courses you qualify for.

The forms for admission are available from 1st June to 15th June. The college accepts centralized form where college specific courses are marked and applied for.

Expected cut-offs:

Its difficult to speculate cut offs . Cut offs of the last year can help to expect the range of percentage the college usually demands. Especially since there can be a mere false scare and at best half relief. However, CBSE results themselves are a good referent of how high or how low the cut-offs may fall. One can still hope to make it to the preferred colleges through sports or ECAS quota or wait for the second cut off list.

Placement cell:

The placement cell of the college has actively worked with companies as IBM, Apex Laboratories, WNS and Genpact for campus recruitment. It is no surprise that last year over 50 students found placements in these companies and headed for a kick start to their careers.

Prabhu Chawla, the Editor of India Today, India's leading weekly newsmagazine is a product of Deshbandhu's commitment to build the foundation of tomorrow's winners. He is the current host of the highly successful weekly talk show Seedhi Baat, which is aired on Aaj Tak. He was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Indian government in 2003.
